This is Bob Odenkirk's action hero debut and we dive into all aspects of it. Then, we do absolutely everything possible to make sure we do a 180 degree turn and watch the 2013 film Prisoners.

138: Samurai Kegstand - Rashomon / The Seven Samurai

In this episode, we tackle our much discussed and long-awaited Akira Kurosawa episode. Where do you begin with one of the greatest filmmakers of all time? We decided to begin with Rashomon, a film who's title is now an adjective for a particular type of story structure. We then move on to the classic and what many consider Kurosawa's magnum opus: The Seven Samurai. Both films star Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimura.

In this episode, we take a cue from Annie Clark, better known as St. Vincent, and talk about John Cassavetes. Recently, Clark pointed to Opening Night as a film that she drew inspiration from during the recording of her new album Daddy's Home, due out in may. It inspired us to finally take a dive into the filmography of one of the all-time great American independent directors. We discuss his Cassavetes' first film Shadows, and then go chronologically into Opening Night.
