31: F@$k it! We're Doin' It Live! - Smokey & The Bandit / Strange Brew

OUR FIRST LIVE EPISODE! We are live from the 3rd Annual Corpus Christi Brewery Festival. We drink some great local craft beer and talk beer related movies, specifically Smokey & The Bandit and Strange Brew! 

Dirty 30: Lords Of Boring - Lords Of Chaos / Musical Sub-genres In Film

In this episode, we talk about the new film Lords of Chaos. Based on a book of the same name, the film chronicles the early days of "TRUE NORWEGIAN BLACK METAL" and the relationship between two key founding members, Euronymous (Mayhem) and Varg (Burzum). The film takes us from the inception of Mayhem to the killing of its leader Euronymous by his friend Varg. 

 

We are joined by our good friend Josh DeLeon to discuss the film and his relationship to it as someone who's very familiar with black metal and the story surrounding its founders that the film portrays. Then we come in from a novice point of few and discuss how our understanding of the events shapes the way we see the film.

29: This Episode F@#$s - Alita / Robert Rodriguez and "Jim" Cameron

This week's episode features the newest Robert Rodriguez film "Alita", a film based on the manga. Originally a James Cameron film, who wrote the script, he eventually became wrapped up in the Avatar series and passed it on to Rodriguez to direct. This film is...well, I don't know, just listen. It's a movie. 

28: Poorly Lit Killer Art - High Flying Bird / Velvet Buzzsaw

This week, the gang takes on another round of Netflix Originals. First up is High Flying Bird. It's like Moneyball, but with Basketball and not as good. Then we talk about the cinematic triumph that is Velvet Buzzsaw. Then again, maybe High Flying Bird was great and Velvet Buzzsaw sucked. Listen to find out! 

27: Keep It Tril - Glass / Unbreakable Trilogy

In this episode, well, the title says it all...we talk about Glass and the Unbreakable "trilogy" as a whole. Unbreakable, Split, the whole shabang. We also talk about M Night's rise and fall from grace, and box office success. Oh, and did we mention that Ethan drops in to play a game??? You don't want to miss this episode!

WE'RE BACK! In this episode, Joe POPS the mic aggressively, David finds the silver linings, and Carlos makes the guys taste his first attempt at Home Brewing! Ethan jumps in half way through to add his two cents and stir the pot. 

 

We're talking about Academy Award Nominated film Vice, starring Christian Bale and directed by Adam McKay. Find out what we think about the film, whether Carlos should give up the brewing dream and more on this exciting new episode! 

25: Brut's Not A Real Style - The Favourite / Oscar Noms and Nonsense

In this episode, Joe, David, and Carlos talk about The Favourite, a new film starring Olivia Colman, Rachel Weiss, and Emma Stone. They talk about the absurd use of fisheye lenses, phenomenal performances, and the chances of receiving Oscar attention. They also talk about the upcoming Oscar predictions (which as of the release of this podcast have become official). We also drink beer from Sierra Nevada and Ingenious Brewing Co. Drink up!

24: CRUSHABLE - Netflix "Oscar Bait" Films / Buster Scruggs / Roma / Bird Box

In this episode, we talk about Netflix's attempt to get a little attention at the Oscar's, specifically their film from the Coen Brothers "The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs". We also get into "Roma", the new (some would say underwhelming" film from Alfonso Cuaron. And to top it all off, we had to discuss Bird Box because, well, the memes.

23: Border - A Swedish Troll Film and More Fantastical Adventures

In this episode we talk about Border, the Swedish Troll film and one thing we DO NOT do is discriminate against Troll sex. But for real, this episode is heavy and deals with some sensitive subjects so it's not for the faint of heart. But if you're into challenging indie cinema, you don't want to miss this episode. 

 

We drink the BigFoot Barleywine from Sierra Nevada! This episode is just Carlos and David chopping it up so tune in to this one for an in depth dive into the film. 

22: The Great Divide - Widows / Steve McQueen

In what is potentially our most contentious episode to date, we discuss Steve McQueen's fourth feature film "Widows" and, in the second half, discussing the film in relation to his first three films. 

 

Things get heated. Carlos yells at Ethan, Ethan yells back, and as always, David plays peacekeeper and a perpetual optimist. We drink beer from Prarie Artisan Ales and 3 Nations Brewing. Shouts out to all our Farmers Branch listeners.
